Day 2 Remodel

New moulding!

The guy putting in the moulding was a little slow...but he got Ava's room done and the hallway.

I have to say, he did a REALLY good job! We went from 3.50" inch moulding to 6" moulding. Such a big difference!
Maybe it doesn't take much to change the look of the house.

Here is the schedule
Hopefully finish moulding where the carpet is going

Friday-
Caulk the moulding

Monday-
Start painting (hopefully)
Painting should take about 5 days.

Then flooring

Then the rest of the moulding downstairs.

The family was still sick today but we hung out in the living room.
Ryan worked upstairs in Ava's room most of the day.

New moulding

Old moulding

Plan 3

So on Friday I had the opportunity to look at all of the models at the new development down the street from our house.
I liked Plan 3.
It's a bit smaller than our house at just under 2,100 sqft. But the appealing part of the house was the three car garage AND single level. There is an option for a 5th bedroom which is awesome. The house as it stands, is 4 bedroom with an extra big laundry room (again big enough for mudroom storage).

I loved the kitchen. it was my favorite part of the whole house.

The flooring was awesome as well. But flooring is something we are planning on changing the floors in our house.

I also loved the design of the rooms in the house.

I liked the option for the 5th bedroom because Phil and I can both have our own offices AND if we happened to have another child we'd have a bedroom for them.

Really, the only reason I went to look at the home was to get ideas for decorating our house.

The model similar to ours

So a new subdivision opened up the street from us.
They have a two story model that looked really similar to our house.
I decided to go check it out last Friday.
The house is a little different than our house.
There are still two bedrooms on the bottom floor. They are in different places. The house is not open like our home is when you walk in, but it had some great features that our home doesn't have.

The master bedroom is a little smaller but the walk in closet and bathroom are kind of amazing!

The attic goes behind the two rooms, so there is only one access door instead of two like our home. There isn't too much wasted space.

The laundry room is downstairs, right off the garage. Its huge and its big enough for cabinets and shelves for a mudroom too.

Its a three car garage (which is a really cool feature)
There is a shelf area over the bathroom when you walk in the front door. It would be a great place for a ladder and a window seat.

There is also a desk and shelves upstairs in the model.

It was a pretty cool house.
I like our house though....

Remodel

So on Friday the floor guy came out to get measurements. (YIKES!!!)
He suggested we get laminate flooring stead of doing hardwood because we have a cat and a toddler.
So Friday afternoon I went to Home Depot and picked up some samples of laminate flooring. It looks pretty good for laminent.
We already have carpet picked out. I love the carpet.
Now we are just trying to figure the hardwood/laminate out.
Should we do ALL hardwood? Should we just do tile in the entry and make a walking path and outline the living room and dinning room with tile or hardwood and have carpet inserts?
So may decisions! Its making me crazy!

I really wanted extra storage space. So instead of cutting out under the stairs, like we maybe planned, I think I came up with a better idea. We have this weird inlet with a lower cabinet and upper cabinet. Its kind of a waste of space. I'm thinking of turning it into a closet with a door so we can hide our filing cabinet and our vacuum cleaner and maybe have some storage for the items that are in the cabinet now.

Our house needs a major overhaul in the decorating department.
I love Pinterest. Its given me lots of ideas of what to do. I just need to bring them all together so they look good!
And I need to organize again so we don't have piles of stuff everywhere.

I am truly excited to get some work done on our house.
The roof, the birds will be gone, we are painting the walls, changing the floors, changing some of the light fixtures, adding at least two fans maybe a new chandelier in the dining area.

More pictures

I have more pictures to post from my model home venture.
I love how model homes look almost perfect. While I love this aspect, at least the decorating part, it doesn't look lived in.
So while I want to borrow some of the style ideas, our home NEEDS to have a little bit of us shining through (pictures of our friends and family, etc. Our hobbies proudly boosted on our walls)

I love this patio. If our HOA would allow us, I would consider building this for our deck.

My daughter calls these "Happy Birthdays"
We'd love to have one in our house! In fact when the contractor came over last week, we had them price it out and we might just be able to get one installed!

Our closet isn't quite this big, but it would be nice to have some organized space and maybe double rows so we can fit more clothes and get organized!

My love for the home

For those of you that know me, you might know I'm obsessed with homes.
My obsession began in the early 1990's when my parents were making the decision to buy a new home or remodel the one they currently owned. We spent weekends upon weekends doing walking throughs and open houses and model openings.
While I didn't quite yet appreciate the actual house, quite yet. All of these experiences were building my inspiration to one day buy a home of my own.
Which is actually one of the many reasons I decided to go to school in Reno, Nevada. In 2003, homes were 1/3 the price of a small home in San Diego. My dream of owning a home would come true with moving to Reno Nevada.

In 2006-2008 my parents were entertaining the idea of moving from San Diego to Reno. To be closer to me.
In desperation to find the perfect house for my parents. I spent countless hours touring and re-touring new home sub-divisions. Anywhere from South Meadows, Damonte Ranch, Sommerset, and Wingfield Springs and D'Andrea. I had the pleasure of meeting the wonderful Real Estate agents that worked in each division. And because of the time I spent, when I walked into the office they knew me by name. Yikes!

But I wanted to start a blog about my love of houses.
I still love houses. If I could buy a house a month, I would. In a heart beat!

Instead, we purchased a house 4 years ago. We love this home of ours.
We have decided to fix our new home up just a little. Paint the walls, renew the floors, fix the light fixtures, put cabinets in the laundry room and possibly add a very small storage cabinet so we can store our vacuum cleaner and steam cleaner away from guests eyes.

Today I ventured out getting decorating ideas. Here are some pictures.

I really like the bathroom. I like the lights, the tile. I like everything about the bathroom.

I love this entry way! I like the light and the tile on the floor the most.

I love the colors in this guest bathroom.

I love this master bedroom.

I love the design of these rooms.
